Teens Health and Self Harm

An alarming statistic is creeping up involving the youth of today, it has been found that almost one in four teens at some point in time have participated in some type of self harm. These types of self harm are basically anything that is causing harm to themselves knowingly, such as cutting themselves or so forth. This is alarming because it is showing a trend in the mental health of teens that people are not too happy to see. It brings to question why these teens are doing this and what is making the number of teens that do these things increase.

One of the many theories behind why teens participate in this type of behavior is the fact that they are seeking attention or perhaps they just want to be noticed. This is not a mental issue as many parents and others fear that it is. It does not mean that the teen needs to seek help from a mental facility and should be termed crazy. They do need help, however, this help is going to come from a counselor or someone that they can talk to in order to figure out just why they do this.

Some signs that the parent should be on the look out for is whether the teen wears long sleeves all the time, which is covering the marks. If they become isolated and depressed, and basically anything that would lead you to think that they are hurting themselves.

Extreme diets like hcg diet are not advised for teenages.
